Topics/Call fo Papers

This special session aims at presenting the most advanced methods and algorithms developed for dynamic driving environment perception within the frameworks of the “Perception” subproject of the EU IP project interactIVe (2010-2013). Multi-sensor data fusion approaches and advanced information processing methods have been deployed within different Perception Modules of this subproject, all hosted under a common real-time perception platform. Their target was to jointly enhance the perception of the road/traffic situation in the vicinity of the (sensor equipped) vehicle in order to enable improved strategies for active safety and driver-vehicle-interaction. Variability of the driving environment and hard real-time constrains have been taken into account while the platform’s outputs have been evaluated on different vehicle demonstrator data. The focus of the special session will be put in the road entities dynamic detection and tracking and in particular in road boundary detection and in frontal and side /rear target tracking including the surrounding id maintenance objective. In addition, a work on vision based semi-dynamic road scene classification will also be presented. The expected outcome of this session is twofold: i) transfer applied research outcomes from the automotive field to the fusion research community ii) open the discussion for future trends in dynamic driving environment perception based on the knowledge of the state-of-the art on sensors, autonomous driving and real-time tracking/recognition algorithms.
