Topics/Call fo Papers

The energy consumption issue has become of paramount importance to allow a more efficient and sustainable use of resources and to avoid global warming. Though the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is not one of the main contributors to energy consumption, still it accounts for over 2% of the carbon footprint. On the other hand, it is estimated that the use of ICT could enable the abatement of almost 8% of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. As the role of ICT is becoming of paramount importance in addressing better energy efficiency in the energy production and distribution sector, as well as in fostering energy-awareness in transportation, manufacturing and services, it would be odd that ICT would not apply the same concepts to itself. This double role of energy-aware, “green” ICT is the main theme of TIDWC 2013. We are looking for contributions pertaining to the application of ICT for energy-awareness in other sectors, like Smart Grids, Smart Cities, smart vehicles and transportation technologies, as well as to green computing and green networking, where the emphasis is ultimately on making ICT itself more energy-efficient.
WORKSHOP TOPICS
The Workshop aims at providing a forum for discussion of timely and relevant aspects concerning the areas mentioned above. Contributions are solicited on all advanced research issues in these respects, and particularly (but not limited to) on the following topics:
Green clouds and data centres
Green data-intensive applications
Green networking for wired and wireless networks
Energy consumption / performance trade-offs
Computing and networking techniques for energy-efficient ICT
Control and optimization techniques applied to green computing and networking
Role of ICT for Smart Grids
Energy-aware aspects and applications in Smart Cities
ICT applications for electric vehicles
ICT for sustainable transportation systems
Interaction between green power sources, data centres and networks
Energy-aware performance models and metrics
Energy pricing and incentives
