The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is the largest congress in the mathematics community. It is held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The Fields Medals, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal are awarded during the opening ceremony on the first day of the congress. Each congress is memorialized by printed Proceedings recording academic papers based on invited talks intended to reflect the current state of the science.

Theme of SEOUL ICM 2014 "Dreams and Hopes for Late Starters"
In 2010 in Bangalore the General Assembly decided in favour of Seoul and now the Organizing Committee takes pleasure in inviting you to participate in the International Congress of Mathematicians Seoul, August 13-21, 2014. It is a glorious pleasure for the people of Korea that the most prestigious academic meeting in mathematics will take place in Seoul. The government, corporations and the mathematical community in Korea have great expectations for the coming congress and stand ready to provide all possible support for a successful congress.
Korea, despite a relatively short history in modern mathematical research, has made significant progress in quality and quantity of research in mathematics. It is currently in IMU Group IV, and in terms of 2008 SCIE publications in mathematics, it was ranked 11th in the world, more than doubling its publications in less than 10 years. Being a late starter, based on its own experience, the KMS understands the challenges met by mathematicians in many IMU member countries where mathematical research, by modern standards, has a relatively short history. The KMS believes the SEOUL ICM 2014 can and will have a positive impact on them in practical and symbolic ways.
To make the congress a true world-wide gathering, the Organizing Committee places special emphasis on attracting mathematicians from developing countries. For this purpose, we have granted a number of fellowships, see our short information about travel grants for 1,000 mathematicians from Developing Countries.
The Organizing Committee has also set up the e-mail updates service. All persons subscribing to this e-mail service will receive the E-news which provides detailed information on registration, submission of abstracts, accomodations, etc.
Companies and institutions willing to support this important event are invited to contact the Secretariat at icm-AT-icm2014.org
