International Workshop on Wireless Access Flexibility
(WiFlex 2013)
September 4-6, 2013, Kaliningrad (Svetlogorsk), Russia
http://wiflex.iitp.ru/
================================================================================
The needs of wireless networks operators and users, as well as service scenarios
and application contexts are continuously and rapidly evolving. Unfortunately,
the ability of traditional wireless technologies to adapt to this evolution is
limited: they were designed as closed systems supporting a pre-established
wireless access operation, and standardization organizations are slow in
adapting to new requirements. This explains why a lot of potentially efficient
but not fully standard compliant solutions have been discarded without
consideration even if they had required a little change of the standard.
WiFlex’13 is the first forum intended to address flexible wireless access
architecture design which opens the door for innovative solutions significantly
improving network performance even if they do not fully conform to current
telecommunication standards. The aim of this workshop is to discuss the
flexibility level of the architecture needed for the next generation wireless
communications. Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts
that propose and investigate innovative approaches enhancing the current
wireless standard functionalities or exploiting them in non-standard manner to
improve wireless networks performance. Also authors are welcome to present
their visions of the novel paradigms of wireless access flexibility and
requirements for future wireless network architectures.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Next generation wireless networks and their architectures
* 4G (WiMAX 2/LTE-A), candidates for 4G (Wi-Fi) and beyond 4G wireless network
* Multihop wireless networks (MANET, VANET, mesh, DAWN, sensor)
* Software defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization
* Device-to-Device communications
* Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine communications
* Cognitive radio networks
* Energy-efficient protocols, green networks and power management
* Integration and co-existence of heterogeneous technologies
* Novel applications and services
* Cross-layer design and optimization
* QoS and resource management
* Modeling and performance evaluation
* Implementations and testbeds
* Operating systems and middleware support for networking
WiFlex 2013 will be hosted on the coast of the Baltic Sea in Svetlogorsk, a very
nice resort of Kaliningrad (former Konigsberg). The seven bridges of Kaliningrad
inspired Euler to write his foundational paper on graph theory. Bessel, Jacobi,
Kirchhoff, Minkowski, Hilbert, all studied or worked here. The city witnessed
the origin of whole areas of modern science. Kaliningrad is also famous because
of its sights: Kaliningrad Organ (one of the greatest in the world), Amber
Museum, Curonian Spit with the greatest dune in Europe. We will invite WiFlex
participants to free excursions.
