The advisory board and management of African Utility Week, Africa's leading trade exhibition and conference for the power and water sector, invites you to submit abstracts for papers and panel proposals for the 2013 African Utility Week conference to be held from 14 - 15 May 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa and the pre-conference workshops to be held on 13 May 2013.
Deadline for submissions has been extended.
The conference will be held under the general theme, 'Delivering beyond tomorrow'. The theme reflects the continued reliance on infrastructure, and the need for utilities to be focusing on service delivery in a changing utility environment.
The call for papers includes recommendations for courses, think tank or panel discussions as well as 20-minute presentations. African Utility Week will explore the positioning of the smart grid, metering, renewable energy, generation and water sectors across Africa. Additionally the positioning of large users of power and water will be considered in the context of sustainable usage of resources and energy efficiency.

Some of the themes that lend themselves to exploration include:
Metering: AMI, smart metering, prepaid metering, credit metering, revenue protection, customer interaction and CRM
Generation technology: Hydro, coal, geothermal, thermal, combined cycle, decentralised generation
Renewable energy: Negotiation of PPAs, Refit, wind technology, solar technology, project management, project updates, CSP, PV
Infrastructure finance: Public private partnerships, IPPs, regional co-operation, project implementation
Energy efficiency: Energy management, carbon tax
Transmission and distribution: Interconnections, switchgear and substations, power pools and energy trading, rural electrification, micro grids
Smart grid: ICT systems and smart technology
Skills development: Training and knowledge transfer, skills retention
Water: Resource management, non-revenue management, water treatment, sewerage, reticulation, leak management and detection
Environmental and management issues: Governance, carbon footprints, EPAs
