NIPS 2012 Workshop on Bayesian Nonparametric Models (BNPM) for Reliable
Planning and Decision-Making Under Uncertainty
Lake Tahoe, Nevada, United States, Dec 7 or 8th, 2012
http://acl.mit.edu/bnpm/nips12-Workshop/Main.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Dates:
---------------------
Submission - 16 September 2012 11:59 PM EST
Notification - 7 October 2012
Workshop - 7 or 8 December 2012 (TBD)
Workshop Description:
--------------------------
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a mechanism for the
statistical machine learning and autonomous decision-making communities
to discuss recent results in Bayesian Nonparametric Models (BNPM) and
inference techniques with the goal of investigating how the BNPMs can be
used to improve the reliability and performance of autonomous planning
and decision making systems in a data-rich, but uncertain, world.
This will be accomplished by bringing together leading experts and
practicing engineers in both fields. The workshop will present a mix of
invited sessions, contributed talks, poster session by leading experts
and active researchers in BNPMs, robotics, and decision making and
planning. Furthermore, the workshop schedule is designed to allow for
plenty of mingle and question time that is expected to be conducive to
merging of ideas and initiating collaborations.
Submissions are expected to represent high-quality, novel contributions
in BNPM and inference theory, online/real-time applications of BNPM, use
and applications of BNPM for decision making under uncertainty for
autonomous vehicles/robots. In particular, publications that contribute
to the theory of or applications of BNPs that are well suited to discrete
classification (e.g., Dirichlet Processes, Beta Processes, and their
hierarchical variants), are highly encouraged.
Invited Speakers:
---------------------
* Dieter Fox, University of Washington
* Jan Peters, Technische Universitaet Darmstadt
* Erik Sudderth, Brown University
* Emily Fox, University of Washington
Submission Instructions:
------------------------
We invite submission of papers to the workshop that are 2-4 pages (with
maximum of 8) formatted in the NIPS style (http://nips.cc/PaperInformation/StyleFiles).
Unlike the main NIPS conference, identities of authors do not need to be removed from the
papers.
Papers should be sent in .PDF file format by email to Jonathan How
(jhow at mit.edu). Acceptance to the workshop will be determined based on
peer review of each paper.
Submitted papers may be accepted either as an oral presentation or as a
poster presentation; there will be only a limited number of oral
presentations in the morning and afternoon sessions.
Accepted papers will be made available online at the workshop
website. Depending on the quality of submissions, we will consider
preparing a special issue of a journal or a collected volume on the
topic of the workshop.
