Computational and data grids and clouds are large scale distributed systems used for serving very large and complex applications. Grids and Clouds performance became more important due to the tremendous increase of users and applications. However, the usage of energy has become a major concern for grid and cloud computing since the price of electricity has increased dramatically.
Increasing energy efficiency in grids and clouds will reduce energy consumption, excess heat, and operational costs. However, merely aiming at reducing energy dissipation or enhancing response time is inadequate. Energy conservation should be considered together with users’ expectations such as expected finish time. Therefore, energy saving without performance degradation is an important issue.
Papers for the Special Issue must provide a substantial novel contribution, and authors must carefully situate their work with regard to the relevant scientific literature. They must clearly address research issues of Energy efficiency in Grids and Clouds and show the role of modelling and simulation in studying large scale distributed systems performance. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Simulation models and tools to measure systems ability to scale and to achieve relevant energy savings.
Energy, performance, quality of service.
Energy efficient resource allocation.
Energy efficient scheduling.
Energy management and power optimization.
Power-down techniques.
Energy efficiency and virtualization methodologies.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Manuscripts should be submitted online through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) at the following link: http://ees.elsevier.com/simpat. Authors must select Special Issue: Energy Efficiency when they reach the “Article Type” step in the on-line submission process. Submitted manuscripts should present original contributions and must not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers will be peer reviewed according to the high standards of the Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory Elsevier journal.
