The 20th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation, MED 2012, will be held in Barcelona, Spain.
Set on a plain rising gently from the sea to a range of wooded hills, Barcelona is Spain's most cosmopolitan city and one of the Mediterranean's busiest ports. Barcelona is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its geographic location but also and above all because of its history, tradition and cultural influences.
The documented history of the city dates back to the founding of a Roman colony called Barcino on its soil in the first century B.C. Barcelona faces the sea and, as a result, became a large gateway through which, during the course of its history, knowledge, traditions, customs, new consumer products have passed, in short, an inexhaustible source of wealth, not only from Europe but also all the lands that form the Mediterranean and beyond. Barcelona, more than just a single city, is really a collection of multi-faceted and diverse cities. The visitor unfamiliar with its history might be surprised that such a modern and enterprising city preserves its historic Gothic center almost intact, or by the curious contrast between the maze of narrow streets and the grid-like layout of the Eixample, the urban planning "Enlargement" project of the end of the 19th century. The buildings, especially the work of the eccentric genius Gaudí and and the art collections by Picasso and Miró are certainly remarkable and are unique experiences for all.
All those active in the field are invited to MED 2012 in Barcelona, Spain, to share recent advances in research and applications in the broad area of systems engineering, control and modelling.
