SPECIAL ISSUE ON Thermodynamics and sustainable energy systems

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENERGY OPTIMIZATION AND ENGINEERING (IJEOE)

Guest Editor: Mohammed Imroz Sohel and Michael W. Jack

INTRODUCTION:

Energy is an issue that affects all of us. In a resource constrained world it is very important that we utilize our energy resources in the most efficient way. Thermodynamic analysis is a powerful tool to achieve optimum resource utilization. Thermodynamics can guide energy systems design, technology evaluation, efficiency improvement, and future research directions as well as inform policy making. Although a mature literature exists on this topic, including a rich literature on the second law analysis, we believe the contemporary issues of resource depletion and climate change are bringing the thermodynamic methods to the forefront once again as powerful tools to address these challenges.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:

The objective of this special issue is to publish original research articles and reviews on application of thermodynamics to realize sustainable energy systems. We welcome articles covering applied research as well as more theoretical in nature.

RECOMMENDED TOPICS:

Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

? Efficiency improvements
? Integrated energy systems
? Application of thermodynamics to conventional energy systems
? Application of thermodynamics to refrigeration and air-conditioning
? Application of thermodynamics to low temperature power cycles
? Application of thermodynamics to desalination
? Application of thermodynamics to renewable energy systems including: bioenergy, solar thermal, geothermal and ocean thermal energy conversion technologies.
? Exergy analysis and entropy generation minimization techniques
? Efficiency vs. power
? Thermodynamics and policy implications
? Fundamental limits to efficiencies

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue on “Thermodynamics and sustainable energy systems” on or before 31 December 2012. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/Files/AuthorEditor/guide.... All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.
