Aims and scope
Software development registers a clear shift towards service provisioning, discovery and composition, supporting data processing and storage, legacy code reuse and integration, and orchestration of activities performed by multiple organizations.
Migration to service oriented systems reveals itself as a necessity and as a big challenge for many enterprises and governmental bodies, faced with the need to modernize their information systems, while preserving their legacy, often obtained with important efforts. For passing towards a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), one has to identify, design and develop software services, to describe their semantics, to create flexible and maintainable mechanisms for their composition. For getting advantage of the Cloud environments, one should perform transformations at the infrastructure, platform and/or software levels, and also solve the emerging security issues. Important challenges of integration, reuse and reengineering also arise in Ubiquitous Computing, Grid, and Business Process Management. This workshop aims to gather researchers originated from a large variety of areas related to services, involved in the migration of legacy data and applications to new, emerging technologies, for sharing the experience gained in creating services, architectures, models and methods.
Topics of interest include (but not limited to):
- Reengineering legacy code for creating services
- Incubating services in pre-existing software
- Transforming legacy systems with Web service technology
- Strategies and practical experiences for transition to SOA
- Methods and case studies for migrating to Cloud environments
- Migrating data storages to Cloud
- Enabling legacy applications on the Grid
- Moving towards intelligent data services
- Service-based reuse of heterogeneous, legacy components in ubiquitous computing environments
- Model Driven Engineering for modernizing information systems
- Migration to services based on MDA standards and languages
- Integrating existing program assets based on semantic services
- Challenges for business-IT alignment
