*** SPECIAL ISSUE ON ***
Data Mining for Monitoring and Managing Systems and Networks
*** SCOPE ***
This Journal Special Issue focuses on 'Data Mining for Monitoring and Managing Systems and
Networks' where 'computational intelligence' is applied to 'communication networks' to
address open issues in 'network and service management'.
*** IMPORTANT DATES ***
Paper submission due: August 15, 2012
Acceptance notification: February 15, 2013
Final paper due: May 15, 2013
Online Publication: 2013
Print Publication:2014
*** TOPICS ***
Modern communication networks have reached a level of scale, dynamics and complexity that
demands for sophisticated analysis. On the other hand, statistical analysis and data mining have
developed effective tools and techniques for the characterization, analysis, modeling and
visualization of massive data sets. However, the use of data mining in the context of
communication networks has been investigated only recently. In this special issue we invite
contributions that show how data mining algorithms and/or novel statistical approaches may be
used to address open issues in computer networks, network control and management, and service
management.
We especially welcome papers that explore the application of data mining in the following areas
of communication networks:
- Autonomic network management
- Cognitive networks
- Analysis, modeling, and characterization of complex networks
- Analysis, modeling, and characterization evolving networks
- Monitoring, management and control of massive-scale networks and services
- Topology discovery
- Gossip, epidemic and other bio-inspired protocols in networks
- Overlays, peer-to-peer and virtual networks
- Networks as databases
- Mobile ad hoc networks
- Wireless sensor networks
- Scale-free and small-world networks
- Dynamics and evolution patterns of networks
- Temporal analysis of network topologies
- Visual representation of dynamic networks
- Network structure and attribute prediction
- Distributed computation on networks
- Quality of Service and Quality of Experience in networks and services
*** SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS ***
The submitted papers must be written in English and describe original research not published nor
currently under review by other journals or conferences. Parallel submissions will not be
accepted. All submitted papers, if relevant to the theme and objectives of the special issue, will
go through an external peer-review process. Submissions should include an abstract, 5-10 key
words, and the e-mail address of the corresponding author. The paper length should not exceed
30 double-spaced pages including figures and references on 8.5 by 11 inch paper using at least
11 point font.
