In the 21st century, humanity has started appreciate the significance of terms such as the following;

Energy
Rapid social transformation
Emulation / Counterfieting
Previliged synergy
Economies of scope
Sustainability
Rapid technological development
Faster communication
E-Commerse
Innovation
Flexible and Just-in-time manufacturing
Cloud technologies
Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, together with the concept of “new eonomy”, transforming into information societies has gained momentum in developed countries and a new economic structure called ‘the information economy’ has come into existence. In this framework, knowledge, quality and level of education are the criteria for economical status among people, whereas human & social investments become the measures for competitive power among countries. Today, the gap in the countries creating information and technology and those with no domestic technology is becoming more significant. The concept of globalization makes such distinction even clearer.
Within the present century, such conditions can, and will, change the concept of engineering in the near future. The main goal is to seek development in this field and to spread present-day engineering education into newer domains, thereby training better-qualified engineers to adopt to the current conditions and to take social welfare a step beyond.
In the light of these new terms, it is inevitable for groups and societies worldwide to transform the already existing models of education and create new ones for decades ahead. It will be a matter of fact that, throughout this transformation, engineers with technical know-how, talent, and experience will play a key role. As a consequence, the education program in this field has to be re-structured and updated for training such specialists so as to lead social transformation and meet future expectations. Similar to education in other disciplines, expertise and experience are the key elements in engineering education.
With due awareness of such pressing issues, Atılım University (Turkey), Ankara University (Turkey), and Southern Illinois University Edwardswille (USA) are proud to announce the organization of the 2nd International Engineering Education Conference (IEEC2012). We welcome experts’ and individuals’ participation and/or contribution at the conference
On Behalf of the Conference Organization Committee,
Prof. Dr. İsmail Bircan
Vice President, Atılım University
