Dear Colleagues,
Season’s Greetings from Romania!
We are very happy to inform you that the Center for Japanese Studies of the
University
of Bucharest will organize *The Second International Symposium on Japanese
Studies* from 3 to 5 March, 2012. The title of the symposium is “Self and
Other in Japan ? Mutual Representations.”
The keynote lecture will be given by professor Kazuhiko KOMATSU, Deputy
director general of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (
*Nichibunken*).
One of the main objectives of this symposium is to strengthen networking
between Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe in the field of
Japanese studies and at the same time to create new opportunities of
collaboration between scholars in Europe and Japan.
To this aim, we have already invited a number of young scholars from
Central and Eastern Europe to join the symposium.
We would like to invite you to propose individual presentations on one of
the following topics, along the lines of the general theme of the symposium:
- linguistics
- literature
- art
- anthropology
- religion
- sociology
- economy
Presentations will be 20 minutes long and will be followed by 10 minute
discussion.
In the third day of the conference, there will also be a panel discussion
session, meant to give the opportunity to the participants to discuss
possible joint research projects in the field of Japanese studies.
The languages of the symposium are English and Japanese.
The Proceedings of the symposium will be published in 2013.

Please submit anonymous abstracts as a Word file (English: 500 words,
Japanese: 1000 characters), attached to an email by *January 25, 2012*, to
the following address: csj.unibuc-AT-gmail.com
Please include in the email message your name, title and affiliation.
Selection results will be announced by January 31, 2012.
