Once per year, the microwave and RF integrated circuit community gathers in Europe. They gather to get informed on the worldwide results of last year’s research and development. They gather to learn parts of the trade they did not yet master. They gather to see their students perform on stage or at the side of their posters. They gather to hear from their peers what cannot be presented yet but what will be highlights for next year. They gather to meet colleagues from industry and academia that have over time evolved into good friends, with whom they would like to have a good time. Once per year, the microwave and RF integrated circuit community gathers in Europe, and in 2012 that will be in Amsterdam.
The 7th European Microwave Integrated Circuits (EuMIC) Conference will be held on 29 and 30 October 2012 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as part of the European Microwave Week. Albeit the 7th conference under this name, it is actually the twentieth microwave IC conference, as it is rooted in a series of conferences that started in 1990 under the umbrella of the GaAs Association. The conference has proven to contribute greatly to the success of the European Microwave Week, and will continue to be the largest event in Europe related to RF microelectronics.
Next to the longstanding strengths in microwave models, technologies, devices and applications, this year’s conference is particularly soliciting papers in several areas. In the microwave modelling area, topics with special attention are complex and multidomain modelling and measurement set-ups. In the technology area, papers on wide-bandgap devices and technologies, as well as on NEMS and space-aspects of IC technologies are specifically solicited. In the circuit design and applications track, millimeterwave and THz devices and circuits, mixed-signal, tuneable and reconfigurable IC’s as well as integrated receivers and transmitters are in the spotlight.
The field is exciting. With a technology base that is the cornerstone of the communication and sensor business, progress and challenges are tremendous. Emerging technologies such as carbon nanotubes, IC-level cooling, Indium Antimonide and Gallium Nitride, and challenges such as TBit communication, sub-millimeterwave imaging, sub-1Volt CMOS, power efficiency and REACH provide boundary conditions for relevant progress for the years to come!
If you are interested in anything about microwave and RF IC's, EuMIC is the place to be. It is not exclusively for academics that share their latest long-term research results. It is not exclusively for people from industry that show their applied R&D, and combine it with a visit to the exhibition. It is above all the place where industry and academia meet. It is the place where academia pick up the relevant problems, and where industry picks up the right ideas. EuMIC is the place where this all happens in a friendly atmosphere. EuMIC provides space for microwaves. Space for microwave IC’s.

Conference Highlights
Over 100 papers will be presented with contributions from Europe, Asia, the USA and a growing number of emerging countries. Papers and posters will be made available on CD-ROM in the Conference Proceedings. Lively industrial panel sessions will also be organised. Keynote speakers from industry and the scientific community will present invited papers on topics of current and emerging importance in the microwave and millimetre-wave field (processes, devices, circuit theory, and industrial applications). Tailored Short Courses and Workshops will complement the programme.
EuMIC 2012 Prize
The Technical Programme Committee of EuMIC and the EuMW Steering Committee will award the EuMIC Prize of ?3,000 to the author(s) of the best contributed paper to EuMIC 2012.
EuMIC Young Engineers Prize
The Technical Programme Committee of the EuMIC and the EuMW Steering Committee will award two EuMIC Young Engineers Prizes of ?2,000 each to young engineers or researchers who have presented an outstanding contribution at the EuMC. To be eligible, the candidates must: (a) be aged 30 or younger at the date of the award; (b) be the first author of the paper; (c) be the contribution presenter in an either podium or poster session. Furthermore, the first author must have a major contribution in the work reported (the respective information will be required upon paper submission). The number of co-authors of the paper is not limited. The winning papers will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Microwave & Wireless Technologies.
GAAS PhD Student Fellowship
The GAAS Association sponsors three student fellowships of ?2,000 each, to be given to young full-time PhD students each having an accepted paper at EuMIC 2012. The purpose is to recognise and provide financial assistance to international PhD students who show promise and interest in pursuing a graduate degree in microwave electronics. Applications should be submitted before June 15th, 2012 to the GAAS Association and to the EuMIC Chairman. For further details see the GAAS Association web-site at www.gaas-symposium.org
Reduced Fees and Special Grants
Reduced registration fees are offered for students as well as senior persons aged 65 years or more. The European Microwave Association will also provide up to 10 student grants consisting of ?500. Applications should be sent to the EuMIC Secretary by June 15th, 2012. The European Microwave Association will also provide a number of grants for delegates coming from Newly Independent States, Russia and from low-income countries. The value of the grant is ?500 plus free registration for the EuMIC. Applications should be sent to the EuMIC Secretary by June 15th, 2012.
