First Call for papers
Theme: "Empowering users, librarians & libraries in the knowledge society"
Introduction
The government has announced its policy decision to drive the economic development of the country based on knowledge. In the wake of these objectives, the society gets transformed into a knowledge society.
Readers, librarians, and libraries naturally gets a higher responsibility in such a knowledge based society. It has been essential to identify, and introduce new concepts-new activities on collection, organising, storage and distribution of knowledge. This highlights the importance of sharing knowledge emanated from new research, experiments, and experiences on library and information arena among the stakeholders of the knowledge society.
It is with this objective, Sri Lanka Library Association selected the above theme for this year's annual conference. Papers and posters are invited on original research, case studies, observations, concept formations and situation reports related to library and information science. SLLA especially welcome sharing experiences on individual, group or corporate innovative projects.
Possible topics include (but not limited to)...
* Theoretical studies on librarianship & information management
* Innovative information literacy programmes
* Effective reading, learning, research & other information habits
* Libraries & information in diversity
* Access to information and/or ICT
* Inventions & new adaptations of hardware and software
* Automation & digital libraries
* Rational use of digital media
* Use of social networking
* Infoprenuership (turning information into a business product)
Location
Colombo (Exact place will be notified later).
Submissions
The deadline for submitting papers and posters is 25 March 2012. Papers could be in Sinhala, Tamil, or English and less than 3000 words in length, and submitted ready to publish. Guidelines for preparing manuscripts and posters will be notified later.
The submission should also include:
* An abstract of approximately 150 words, summarising the paper
* Speaker's name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address and brief biographical note.
Authors should be prepared to give presentations at the conference. The length of the presentations should limit to 20 minutes.
Papers and presentations should be unpublished, original works. SLLA has first publication rights to papers selected.
Papers will be reviewed by a qualified review Panel. Authors will be notified on the acceptance of their papers before 31 March 2012.
