ICID 2012 - 15th International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID)
Topics/Call fo Papers
Physicians, scientists and microbiologists who attend the 15th ICID will be able to articulate an updated knowledge of developments on the diagnosis, prevention, treatment or control of infectious diseases around the world. Since the Society recognizes that communities differ in resources available for health care and research, and that there are valuable lessons to be learned by sharing experiences from different backgrounds, attendees will understand new approaches in different aspects of basic science research, new developments diagnostics for infectious diseases in both developed and developing settings, and strategies for the treatment of a variety of infectious diseases under different resource constraints. A further objective of the Congress is to provide physicians, scientists and public health officials an opportunity to learn from their colleagues various strategies to approach important infectious disease problems.
Specifically, all participants will likely attend the 15th ICID plenary lectures and at the close of the Congress will:
Be versed in the latest global efforts on malaria eradication;
Understand the history of the discovery of HIV and comprehend how the prevention of transmission of HIV will likely unfold by looking at trends and other clues from the early 21st century;
Understand the effect of international health and global migration on emerging infections, tropical diseases, and vaccine-preventable diseases in various mobile populations including travelers;
Appreciate the impact on adults of Pneumococcal infections in children;
Be aware of the microbial ecology of infectious diseases.
By choosing from an array of presentations in a series of parallel sessions, participants at the 15th ICID will be able to:
Plan a rational approach for the treatment and prevention of neonatal sepsis;
Articulate the latest updates on prevention and care of bacterial Meningitis;
Understand the burden of Plasmodium vivax malaria in Latin America and approaches to treating the disease;
Recognize the threat of antibiotic 'Panresistance' posed by Carbapenemase-producing bacteria and understand ways to prevent and manage this problem;
Know the particulars of the current challenges in HIV care;
Understand international perspectives on infection control;
Understand the promise and limitations of short course antibiotic treatment of childhood Pneumonia ;
Comprehend the latest information on current topics related to fungal infections;
Understand the disease mechanism and control of MRSA infections;
Appreciate current issues in the emergence and handling of multi drug resistant gram-negative infections
Recognize the utility of biomarkers in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases
Understand the application of antimicrobial stewardship in the prevention of antibiotic resistance;
Understand the latest information about new tools available for the management of tuberculosis around the world;
Understand the promise of specific approaches to the elimination of AIDS.
