SYSTOR 2012 - 5th Annual International Systems and Storage Conference

SYSTOR 2012, the 5th annual international systems and storage conference, promotes experimental and practical computer systems research encompassing (though not limited to) the following topics:
operating systems, computer architecture, and their interaction
distributed, parallel, and cloud systems
networking, mobile, wireless, peer-to-peer, and sensor systems
runtime systems and compiler/programming-languages support
energy/power management
file and storage systems
security, privacy, and trust
virtualization
embedded and realtime systems
fault tolerance, reliability, and availability
deployment, usage, and experience
performance evaluation and workload characterization

SYSTOR attempts to combine high-quality international systems research of practical nature with interactions between the relevant industry and academia communities. We therefore solicit paper submissions in four separate tracks:
Full research papers, reporting original, previously unpublished high-quality research, using not more than 12 pages (see formatting rules below). Submitted papers will be reviewed by the program committee. Accepted papers will be presented in the conference and included in the conference proceedings, published by ACM.
Short research papers, reporting original, previously unpublished work for which a full paper may not be suitable. Short paper submissions may include, for example: smaller ideas that can be fully expressed in half the space of a full-length paper; unconventional ideas at a preliminary stage of development; interesting negative results; experimental (in)validation of previous findings; controversial positions that challenge the common wisdom; and fresh approaches for addressing old problems. Short papers must not exceed 6 pages. They will undergo the same review process as full papers. If accepted, short papers will be allocated a shorter talk slot during the conference and will also be published in the conference proceedings.
Highlight papers, containing exciting research results accepted to a recent top-tier systems conference or journal. A small sub-committee will briefly review these submissions and will select the most suitable ones for SYSTOR. The corresponding presentations will then be "replayed" at SYSTOR for the benefit of the local community. A submission should include a link to the corresponding paper, and it should attest the merit of the publication venue. Accepted submissions will not be published in the proceedings.
Industry papers, describing the technologies behind real systems or products and the considerations that shaped their design and functionality. These papers will be reviewed for quality, but they need not include original research. The papers should be in the form of short or full papers (as described above). Accepted papers will optionally be included in the conference proceedings based on the authors preference. Submissions should clearly indicate: (1) that the paper is submitted to the industrial track; (2) whether the paper is short of full; and (3) whether the paper should be included in the conference proceedings if accepted.

SYSTOR 2012 will additionally host distinguished keynote speakers, a poster session, and several social events at the conference.

Papers submission: To submit, use the SYSTOR 2012 submission web site. The page limits mentioned above are all inclusive (references, figures, etc.). Submissions must be in PDF, printable on US Letter sized paper. Authors should format their papers with the SIGPLAN template using 10pt font (both LaTeX and MS Word versions are available). The "natbib" package suggested for LaTeX can be found here. Please use the 'preprint' option of the \documentclass (the page numbers it produces are of great help to reviewers).

Accepted papers: Proceedings including all (non-highlight) accepted papers will be published by ACM in the ACM Digital Library. Authors of (non-highlight) accepted papers will need to sign the ACM copyright forms. At least one author of every accepted paper is expected to attend the conference in person and preset the paper. Lastly, after the conference, a select number of top-scored storage-related papers may be recommended for submission of an extended version of their papers to the ACM Transactions on Storage (TOS) journal with fast-tracking (an accelerated review process).

Posters submission: Students who wish to present their work are required to submit a short (up to one page of PDF) abstract to the SYSTOR 2012 poster track using this website. Submissions could represent early work that is not yet ready for submission to a refereed conference or journal. If accepted, students will be required to prepare and present the poster.
