Date2023-02-06
Deadline2023-06-30
Venue, Algeria
KeywordsLSP Teaching; Translation and interpreting; Corpus Studies
Topics/Call fo Papers
The rise of teaching English for Specific Purposes
has changed the perception of teacher roles and
has introduced new instructional needs. ESP
practitioners, though well-educated and with a
significant teaching experience, have simply been
adapted from ELT and have not received any
systematic training to meet the diversified roles of
ESP practitioners as opposed to EFL teachers,
because there are no planned training programs
which focus on issues closely related to ESP. The
the question that can be raised is:
Can all general English teachers teach ESP? the
answer is “NO”. Language teachers lacking training
feel unprepared to teach ESP, to integrate authentic
texts, tasks or tests from content areas in their English
classes. Therefore, language teachers without training,
skills and strategies for language teaching perceive
themselves as unable to help ESP learners to
understand academic concepts, facts and knowledge
encoded in academic texts through the language that
they are still learning. Consequently, EFL teachers who
have to teach ESP should get special training to
perform well to meet the needs of tertiary level
students. Indeed, teacher training can be
indispensable in delivering effective and efficient ESP
courses. Accordingly, this special issue addresses the
themes related but not limited to the following
research areas:
LSP approaches for translation and interpreting
pedagogy
Translation, ESP, and Corpus Studies
The relevance of translation in ESP teaching
The role and status of Translation in ESP
English teaching and learning for academic/professional
purposes
Needs Analysis in ESP
Curriculum development and course design in ESP
ESP teacher training and professional development
Assessment and testing techniques in ESP
