ORGANISERS
Established in 1941, with Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis as Head, the Department of Statistics, Calcutta University, the oldest post-graduate Department in Asia offering a course in statistics, has nurtures and produced a host of eminent statisticians who have distinguished themselves both in India and abroad. The department is regularly visited by illustrious scholars. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the prime departments in India for dissipating knowledge.
Calcutta Statistical Association, an international learned society, closely associated with the Department, was established in 1945 with a view to promote activities related to statistics and its allied fields. The Association publishes an internationally circulated journal of its own besides organizing lectures, seminars, workshops and symposia, keeping a close liaison with the academic activities of the Department.

SYMPOSIUM
The Eighth International Triennial Calcutta Symposium following the foot steps of the previous seven symposia held in the years 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 plans to bring together researchers engaged in theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of Statistics and Probability on a common platform to exchange ideas and facilitate discussions. A fairly large number of eminent researchers from all over the world are expected to attend the Symposium. As in the past, a special session on Design of Experiments and Related Combinatorial Aspects will be organized in the memory of Late Prof. Raj Chandra Bose. There will also be poster sessions for students and young researchers.

LANGUAGE
The official language of the Symposium will be English.

CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS
Researchers intending to present papers are requested to submit two copies of an extended Abstract in about 300 words, latest by, July 31, 2012. The abstract should include a title and a few key words, the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s), full address(es), including fax and e-mail ID. Abstracts may also be submitted to the e-mail id papers.caltri8-AT-gmail.com.

Contents/abstracts of posters (4’x3’) should be sent by hard copy to Prof. Uttam Bandyopadhyay by post at the Departmental address or a soft copy clearly mentioning the format by e-mail at posters.caltri8-AT-gmail.com. The deadline for submission of posters is August 15, 2012. The best three posters will receive cash awards.
Decision on acceptance of papers will be communicated by September 15, 2012.

REGISTRATION
Registration deadlines: to be announced.
The Registration fees (non-refundable) are as follows.

Indian : Rs. 1,000/- (Rs. 600/- for CSA Life Members)
Foreign (Including NRI) : $ 225/- ($ 175/- for CSA Life Members)
Students abroad without any source of funding, may apply for a reduced Students’ Fee of $100/-.
Registered participants will be provided symposium kit and lunch, tea/coffee on all symposium days. Payment should be made only by crossed Cheque / Draft in favour of Calcutta Statistical Association.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation can be arranged on receipt of requisite charges (to be intimated later). Two types of accommodation that will be available are:
(i) Modest local/institutional guest houses: -AT- Rs. 300-600/- twin shared, Rs. 600-1200/- double (non-a/c)
(ii) Local luxury guest houses: -AT- Rs. 1,000-1,500/- twin shared, Rs. 2,000-2,800/- double (a/c)

Participants seeking hotel accommodation should contact hotels directly. Most luxury hotels in Kolkata have websites admitting online reservations. Selection of Luxury Hotels in Kolkata

Most of the private guest houses are in the vicinity of the conference venue. However, transport facilities between the place of accommodation and the conference venue will be provided on the conference days.
