PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Symposium
Workshop
Oral presentation
Poster presentation
Photograph presentation
Video presentation

Symposium

The purpose of a symposium is to provide a structured format, where a
series of presentations are organised around a common theme in order to
engage the audience in critical reflection on relevant key issues and
questions.
Symposia are expected to deliver a set of thematically integrated oral
presentations that convey new knowledge or perspectives on one of the
subthemes. The total time for a symposium is between 60 - 90minutes. To be
consider in the program there must be at least three registered presenters
one of whom acts as the chair and moderator to facilitate panel and
audience discussions
We strongly encourage abstracts which represent different perspectives such
as decision makers, practitioners, academics and older people.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.

Workshop

The purpose of a workshop is to provide a participatory opportunity for a
small group of participants to acquire new knowledge and / or skills on a
particular topic within one of the subthemes.
Workshops are expected to have a clear objective(s) and be results
orientated to ensure knowledge / skills transfer on completion of the
session. The total time for a workshop is between 60 - 90minutes.
To be considered in the program there must be at least two registered
presenters one of whom is responsible for the overall integrity of the
session. We strongly encourage abstracts which demonstrate
interdisciplinary and multisectoral cooperation and collaboration.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.

Oral Presentation

The purpose of an oral presentation is to provide a snapshot of a practice,
an intervention, a community, a study, a concept or an experience as it
relates to one of the subthemes. Oral presentations are expected to be a
concise and focused package of must-hear material.
Each 60-minute time-room slot accommodates up to four (4) oral
presentations. Due to the tight schedule and to ensure all presenters have
equal opportunity, the session chairs will be instructed to strictly
enforce session times.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.

Poster Presentations

Posters are a special type of presentation. When well designed, they are
not simply papers pasted onto boards nor are they mounted sets of
presentation visuals. Rather, posters, when effectively designed, are
something in between.
The purpose of a poster is to convey an idea to a group of people in an
informal setting where interaction between author and viewer is possible.
Address a single, problem, issue or question and support the solution,
premise or proposition with examples of data or study. The degree to which
a presentation favorably impresses an audience is often inversely
proportional to the number of points covered.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.

Photograph Presentations

The purpose of the photograph presentation is the formation of a festival
of images through which we can learn in new ways about the lives of older
people.
There are many essays and perspectives along the journey of growing older
across our life span that straddle the twin worlds of social comment and
the exploration of the everyday.
The space between the mainstream and the margins is where many
photographers and their images come alive. Working with very little
resources and, at times, with reflections on our own life, family and
livelihood to produce extraordinary images they help us see and experience
the world in new ways.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.

Video Presentations

Most people are said to be visual learners; they are more likely to respond
positively to a show-me-how than to tell-me-how information. Videos leave
lasting images imprinted on the mind that often in turn play out in our own
lives and those around us.
The power of citizens ageing in a connected world prompts us to invite you
to join other creative and passionate people and agencies in our video
community.
Special attention by the reviewers will be given to those abstracts and
sessions that bring to light the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on
Ageing (MIPAA) and where appropriate the ’gender lens’.
