Topics/Call fo Papers

The emergence of new media technologies, also referred to as information and communication technologies (ICTs), and recognition of their role in social, political and economic development in the world, has enhanced media for development activities globally. From personal computers, internet with wireless connection and digital cameras to cable television, two-way call-in radio, mobile telephones and other digital devices, these have all contributed to the changes in information dissemination, while making sharing and networking possible among individuals and organizations almost in every field of development.
Indonesia is the 3rd largest wireless market in Asia, behind China and India in terms of the number of subscribers. By the end of 2010 Indonesia had 235.8 million wireless subscribers. Indonesia was also ranked as the big four largest Internet users in Asia by March 31, 2011. The growth of the new media across the globe is overwhelming and has become a necessary condition for the development of human civilization.
However, the effect of the new media on the civilization has not been fully explored. Scholars and researchers have explored the critical role of new media and communication in bringing about change at various levels ? individual, community, society, national and international. The formation of network society, the glocalization and the tension of local and global culture and identity, and the opportunity, barriers, and dangers of the new media in the society need to be examined and revisited.
This conference is dedicated to answer the interests and collaborative contributions of researchers, scholars and practitioners in the area of new media and larger discourse on human civilization.
