Introduction
Advances in medical and information technology are transforming medical care and treatment. Healthcare is increasingly aided by and dependent on information collected, stored, managed, interpreted and distributed by information technology. In the last two decades or so, health informatics is playing an ever-expanding role in the transformation of healthcare delivery. The purpose of the International Conference on Health Informatics (ICHI)is to explore and map the opportunities and challenges facing the growing health informatics sector. The conference explores and examines the role of information and communication technologies in reshaping the healthcare industry, improving healthcare delivery, reducing clinical risk; and modernizing healthcare facilities.

The International Conference on Health Informatics (ICHI) is the main scientific event in medical, biomedical, and health informatics in the region. The conference aims to address the various aspects of health informatics. The conference will address issues such as telemedicine, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, confidentiality and data security, healthcare information systems, data integration and retrieval, data visualization and 3D reconstruction, decision support systems, dependability of information, devices and sensors, distributed healthcare systems, expert systems in healthcare, hospital management systems, human computer interaction, image and signal processing, knowledge acquisition tools, knowledge based systems, nursing informatics, online medical applications, and robotics and virtual reality. In addition, the conference will explore how socio economic aspects of information technology applications in a medical and healthcare context as well as related standards, social and legal issues. Attendees of ICHI 2012 will be at the conference and exhibition solely with the intention to gain knowledge and to network with the leading key players in the industry.

ICHI 2012 brings together the health informatics community from across the globe. The conference aims to provide a forum to examine and discuss current practices and future directions related the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) to healthcare and medicine. The conference aims to provide the participants an occasion to share and exchange experiences and research findings, to stimulate more ideas and useful insights regarding the uses of information technology in healthcare, and to debate their views on future research and developments. The conference welcomes papers that address issues related to information technology and its applications in a medical and healthcare context. We invite a wide array of research approaches that address not only the practical and applied aspects of information technology in a medical and healthcare context, but also the social, economic and legislative aspects and consequences.

All papers accepted for publication will be published in the conference proceedings, which will be available to delegates at the time of registration. The proceedings will be indexed by major international indexers.
