BioIoT 2011 - The 1st International Workshop on the Biomedical Internet of Things

In conjunction with ithings 2011
Dalian, China
19-22 October, 2011

With the rapid development of intelligent (bio-) medical sensors, pervasive computing, intelligent information and wireless network technologies, as an important part of the Internet of Things, Body Sensor Networks (BSNs) are becoming widely accepted as technology of choice for remote health monitoring and automation assistance. To fully explore the potential of BSNs, however, significant challenges are yet to be overcome. This workshop will address the scope and challenges of designing, building, and deploying BSNs. In this regard, the conference aims to provide a high-profile, leading-edge, international forum for researchers and practitioners in the field of computer science, biomedical engineering and applications for BSNs, as well as to identify new and emerging trends of research topics related to BSNs.

The conference aims to present innovative ideas and results on all aspects of BSNs, including theoretical foundations, techniques and methods, tools and platforms, prototypes, and practical applications.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. In-body, on-body, and around body network management
2. Wearable and implantable sensor integration and development platforms
3. Light-weight wireless communication techniques and protocols
4. Integration of BSN with heterogeneous networks
5. Reliability, security, privacy and trust issues for BSN
6. Signal processing, context awareness and data aggregation and fusion
7. Simulation, analytical modeling and measurements of BSN
8. Medical, sport, entertainment and lifestyle applications

IMPORTANT DATES

Paper submissions due: July 15, 2011
Notification of acceptance: August 1, 2011
Camera ready version due: August 15, 2011

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Authors are invited to submit original papers that must not have been submitted to or published in any other workshop, conference, or journal. The workshop will accept papers describing completed work as well as work-in-progress (with preliminary results). Submissions must be in PDF format and not exceed 10 single-spaced, double-column pages using 10 pt size fonts on 8.5 x 11 inch pages in IEEE style format.

All papers will be peer-reviewed by members of the Program Committee and be evaluated for originality, significance of the contribution, technical correctness and presentation. At least one author of each accepted papers must register for the conference and present the work at the workshop. Accepted and presented papers will be included in the iThings 2011 workshop proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press and indexed by EI Compendex. Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in several SCI-index international journals (check the website for details).
