“2011 IEEE 12th International Conference on Computer-aided Industrial Design and Conceptual Design” co-sponsored by IEEE Beijing Section, Zhejiang University, Industrial Design Institution and the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society will be held in Chongqing, China in November, 2011.

The conference’s theme is “Industrial Design Service Platform and Equipment Manufacturing” and it will be dedicated to exploring the enhancement of the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry needs, the full utilization of advanced manufacturing theories, the integration of creative design and basic technology and resources, building a creative design platform for equipment manufacturing and promoting the transformation and upgrading of industrial clusters.

Background

As an effective platform bringing the worlds' researchers, scholars, entrepreneurs and corporations together to share experiences and exchange latest studies and findings, the international conference on Computer-aided Industrial Design & Conceptual Design (CAID&CD) has been held in Guilin, China (1998), Bangkok, Thailand (1999), Hong Kong (2000), Ji’nan, China (2001), Hangzhou, China (2003), Delft, Netherlands(2005), Hangzhou, China (2006）, Seoul, Korea (2007）, Kunming, China (2008),Wenzhou, China (2009), Yiwu, China (2010). In succession of the past eleventh, the 12th (CAID&CD 2011) conference will be held in Chongqing and dedicated to "Industrial Design Service Platform and Equipment Manufacturing ".

In recent years, as the industrial design is more emphasized by all levels of government and industry, ministries and provinces have focused on the introduction of a number of revitalization policies of industrial design industry and the establishment of different types of industrial design service platform. Especially a new generation information technology injected into industrial design service platform has become the development trends, which will enhance the manufacturing capability of independent innovation with far-reaching significance.

As a main international academy conference of computer-aided industrial design and conceptual design, the mission of CAID&CD is to offer a communicating platform of theory research, achievement exhibition and practice exploration for experts, scholars and enterprisers who are dedicated in the fields of digital art and design, application ergonomic and design, fashion design and management. Moreover, the subjects of “how to interpose cloud-computing into industrial design service platform” and “how does the internet of things promote intelligent assisted equipment design” will be considered as two special sessions of the conference this year. We hope the conference can provide a place where everyone can share experiences and present the latest technological achievements. Welcome colleagues to submit papers and attend the meeting.

The accepted papers of the 11th conference will be published in the IEEE categorized conference proceedings, and Outstanding papers will be recommended for publication in “Knowledge and Information Systems”, “Journal of China Design”, “Packing Engineering”, “Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering”, “Journal of Computer-Aided Design & Computer Graphics”, “Journal of Image and Graphics” and “Journal of System Simulation”. The Conference Proceedings have been indexed by EI and ISTP since 2006.
