The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) has empowered every device with storage, communication and computing ability to connect to the Internet, which results in the realization of a wide range of applications in almost every domain, including smart cities, smart transportation, smart healthcare and smart industry, to name a few. The common theme of all IoT applications is that every device in the network can be connected; as a result, these devices can communicate with each other. Recently, 5G networks have been introduced, having the ability to support different applications and devices due to the advantages they offer, including high data rate and reliability.
According to Gartner, about 21 billion IoT devices will be connected over the Internet by 2020. In order to provide connectivity to these devices, 5G is one of the best candidate technologies as it has the ability to support massive IoT devices due to the various advantages it provides. For instance, 5G can be used for highly mobile IoT applications including the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), which involve vehicles with high levels of mobility. This realization of 5G-based IoT networks faces several challenges which need to be addressed in order to make it a reality.
This symposium is soliciting original technical papers addressing the main research challenges in the direction of 5G-based IoT and its applications, including, but not being limited to:
Topics:
Network architecture design for 5G-based IoT networks.
Novel applications of 5G-based IoT networks, including IoV, smart cities, etc.
Use cases of 5G networks within IoT and IoV.
