2009 International Workshop on Cross-layer Design in Wireless Mobile Ad hoc Networks

in conjunction with First International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks (AdHocNets'09)

September 22, 2009, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

WORKSHOP CO-CHAIRS:

Dr. Sunil Kumar, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA 92182, USA

Dr. Annamalai, Annamalai Jr., Prairie View A&M University, TX 77446, USA

Dr. John D. Matyjas, Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome, NY 13441, USA

Dr. Michael Medley, Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome, NY 13441, USA

Wireless ad hoc networks are witnessing widespread interest, including their applications in airborne, terrestrial, and space platforms. However, the multi-hop nature and node mobility in these networks demand that the protocols be developed in a cross-layer fashion to achieve the performance objectives. This workshop will focus on cross-layer and QoS-aware MANET protocols that consider the node speed, rapidly-varying probabilistic descriptions of the signaling environment, power, bandwidth, latency, computational complexity, security, covertness, and efficiency.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Physical and MAC layer design considerations for efficient network design.
Optimization of the limited physical resources under Quality of Service (QoS) and data prioritization constraints.
Cross-layer routing schemes.
Smart packetization and prioritization of video bitstream for robust transmission over ad hoc networks.
Mechanisms to handle the security and information assurance problems associated with using high-bandwidth, high-quality, and communications links.
Antenna designs and advanced coding for improved performance.
Requirements-driven information assurance considerations at all layers for specific operational environments.
