SpoVNet 2011 - Programming Contest on Spontaneous Virtual Networks (SpoVNet)

Call for Participation
Programming Contest on Spontaneous Virtual Networks (SpoVNet)
Call for Participation
Spontaneous Virtual Networks (SpoVNets) can be used for various
applications that employ distributed, peer-to-peer-based services. SpoVNet
offers a mature, easy-to-use framework that assists coping with network
hassles (e.g., NATs, Mobility, and Heterogeneity) and provides a couple of
ready-to-use communication services. Since possibilities are virtually
infinite in imaginable application cases, we introduce this contest to let
SpoVNets flourish into the wild.
The goal of this contest is to encourage application developers to use the
SpoVNet framework's features for realizing their application ideas. To
this end, participants may develop any distributed application they like.
Each interested participant or team must submit a brief proposal following
the submission guidelines available from the project homepage. The quality
and innovation of this proposal decides on further participation in the
programming period. In this period, teams have time to work on their
implementations. After the review of the final submissions the winners
will be announced.
Example Applications and Services
The SpoVNet framework already comes with two ready-to-use services: A
group communication service for peer-to-peer-based multicast and an
event publish/subscribe service. Applications could be anything like
video-conferencing, chat, multiplayer games, distributed collaboration,
... be spontaneous and creative!
Rewards
Total prize money is
10 000 Euro
Additionally, the winners will be invited to attend the award ceremony
co-located with the 36th IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks
(LCN) 2011 held in Bonn, Germany.
What and Where to Submit
Send us a brief description of your application. How does it make use of
SpoVNet? Submit your project details at
http://www.spovnet.de/contest
Submissions may be made in ordinary text (*.txt), PDF, Microsoft Word
Document (*.doc, *.docx) or OpenOffice Document (*.ods). Use the templates
on the contest website (http://www.spovnet.de/contest). Your proposal
should not exceed two pages with 11pt font-size on DIN A4 paper.
Important Dates
