Silver Society & Social Change
The world’s population is aging: Virtually every country in the world is experiencing growth in the number and proportion of older persons in their population. Population aging is poised to become one of the most significant social transformations of the twenty-first century, with implications for nearly all sectors of society, including labor and financial markets, the demand for goods and services, such as housing, transportation and social protection, as well as family structures and intergenerational ties.
Take Thailand as an example, more people are living longer than ever before. With one of the world’s lowest fertility rates combining with the highest life expectancy, Thailand has begun the challenging process of meeting the needs of an aging society. The government has revised and updated policies on aging in line with the Madrid Plan for Action on Ageing (MIPAA), but existing laws and policies on aging are not always put into practice.
This year, ISSSM international conference will create an outstanding platform to engage in dialogue for and of the geriatric society and we invite you to join us in Bangkok, Thailand, from March 24nd to the 26th.
