Topics/Call fo Papers
The Second International Workshop on Human Control of Ubiquitous Systems
(HUCUBIS'09)
in conjunction with COMSWARE 2009
July 15, 2009
Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
http://www.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pi4/projects...
*** Submission Deadline: April 24, 2009 ***
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW AND SCOPE:
-------------------
A major challenge in adaptive ubiquitous systems is to allow users to
customize and control the system behaviour according to their
needs. As an example, if a system fails or multiple users want to
achieve conflicting goals, the system has to stay controllable by its
users. At the same time, the system must ensure that its users are not
distracted. The goal of this workshop is to discuss how to keep users
in the control loop of ubiquitous systems while realizing
distraction-free system operation. To do so, we will bring together
researchers from the areas of human computer interaction, adaptive
systems, and ubiquitous computing to provide and discuss novel ideas
and techniques for the control of ubiquitous systems. Topics include
appropriate middleware and service platforms, novel multimedia
interfaces (e.g. virtual environments or gesture recognition), as well
as user studies and evaluations of user controlled ubiquitous systems.
We are seeking original, previously unpublished papers addressing
human control in ubiquitous systems. All submissions will be judged by
their technical merit and relevance to the workshop, based on a
thorough review process by the Technical Program Committee.
Papers should have a length of up to six pages and will be published
in electronic proceedings in the ACM digital library. Additional
information about the submission is available at the workshop web page.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* End user configuration for ubiquitous systems.
* Development tools for user control of ubiquitous systems.
* Novel human computer interaction and multimedia control interfaces
(e.g., virtual environments, gesture recognition, speech) for
ubiquitous systems.
* Self-learning adaptive systems.
* Middleware and service platforms for distributed adaptive systems.
* Support for error handling.
* Conflict detection and conflict management for adaptive ubiquitous
systems.
* User studies and evaluations about user controlled ubiquitous
systems.
