Topics/Call fo Papers
The convergence of high performance computing systems with cloud computing and big data paradigm is already having major impact on societies and individuals alike. IoT devices, networks and systems are contributing to this phenomenon. Consequently, it is important to investigate the relationship between these new technologies and systems and anticipate future solutions, trends and innovations. Such developments may call for new architectures, designs, algorithms, services and tools that will harness the power and capabilities of IoT-based solutions interfaced with cloud, high density data centers and HPC facilities.
It is estimated that the number of internet-connected things will reach about 40 billion by 2020. It is also projected that the amount of global information handled online will be more than 45 zettabytes around the same time of having the first exascale machine. These IoT devices provide critical real time information, identify potential problems almost instantly, and act or assist to remedy them using automation and autonomy strategies. However, traditional data centers and HPC systems are not capable of matching the kind of exponential growth that is predicted for the Internet of Things and Clouds. That is where the value of a modular approach to enable the scalability of high performance computing systems must be attained, simultaneously with the developments toward exascale age.
The IoT-HPC special session aims at presenting new and original contributions focusing on the application of IoT based systems and solutions that generate huge amount of raw data and incorporate Cloud and high performance computing technologies. We invite papers tackling the design, architecture, storage, algorithms and processing at all levels. All application areas are welcomed.
The IoT-HPC topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
IoT Foundations, Principles, Design and Technologies
Federated IoT Platforms, Devices and Services
IoT, Data Centers and High-Performance Computing
Integration of IoT with Cloud and Fog computing
Data centers management software
Interoperability solutions for IoT systems and platforms
Energy aware architecture and protocols for IoT assisted systems
Autonomous and self-organizing IoT systems
Modeling and simulation of large-scale IoT based scenarios
Security, privacy and trust for IoT Devices and Platforms
Blockchain schemes and the Internet of Things (IoT) systems
IoT system realization and deployment
Personal wearables
Smart home appliances
IoT enabled smart utility grid architectures and models
IoT domain applications in healthcare, disasters, security, smart buildings and cities, education, industry, manufacturing, logistics, intelligent transportation, and more
Case studies and prototypes
