The Nursing Unit of ATINER organizes a Stream on “Health Professional Regulation and its Impact on Safety and Quality” as part of the 4thAnnual International Conference on Nursing, 7-10 May 2018, Athens, Greece sponsored by the Athens Journal of Health.
This stream will explore the interface between public protection, health professional regulation, safety and quality and continuing competence (or competence awareness, as we have described it). In particular, it will focus on three research studies conducted by the stream leader and co-presenter, examining: continuing competence requirements and their impact on patient safety and fitness to practise; international regulatory definitions of competence awareness and the definition of and understanding about competence awareness, often described as “insight”. These research studies will be linked by a fourth paper to the relationship between competence awareness and patient or public protection, the agreed intent of health professional regulation.
Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycanae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, an one-day visit to Delphi and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit. Details of the social program are available here.
