The Engineering & Architecture Research Division of Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) organizes A Panel on Philosophy of Engineering, 5-8 June 2017, Athens, Greece as part of the 2nd Annual International Conference on Engineering Education & Teaching sponsored by the Athens Journal of Τechnology & Engineering.
In an effort to establish innovative programs that are tuned to the anticipated realities and needs of the new century, the philosophy of engineering has been identified as a necessary component of future engineering education. With an understanding that fluidity in current social and technological phenomena is affecting education at a fundamental level, the new initiative is mindful to offer meaningful forward-looking content. The topic is motivated by a critical examination of the changing role of engineering, within academia, industry, and society. The discussion is open to topics such as the perceived need of engineering philosophy courses, possible course structures and content, experiences from past attempts of similar initiatives, and cooperation between departments of engineering and philosophy.
Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of social events will be organized: A Greek night of entertainment with dinner, a special one-day cruise to selected Greek islands, an archaeological tour of Athens and a one-day visit to Delphi. Details of the social program are available here.
Fee structure information is available on http://www.atiner.gr/fees.
