Topics/Call fo Papers

Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging paradigm that seamlessly integrates a large number of smart objects with the Internet. It adopts novel processing and communication architecture, technologies and management strategies. IoT system could leverage wireless sensor network to collect and process data, and could employ cloud technologies, peer to peer systems to provide computation capability. IoT brings tangible benefits to the environment, society and economy by enabling the interconnection and cooperation of smart objects. The mobile cloud is also a very useful platform for IoT with the advent of cloud computing.
However, this new paradigm also brings many security and privacy issues such as data and personal information confidentiality, authentication and authorization, and secure communication and computation. Thus, studying the addressing these security and privacy challenges will pave way for the wide deployment of IoT and mobile cloud computing. There are reported incidents such as privacy breach, unauthorized access, data manipulation, mobile phone hacking and sophisticated infection of viruses have been reported. This leads us to develop a special issue seeking high quality of papers demonstrating real proofs-of-concept and solutions to enforce the importance of security and privacy for IoT.
Topics
The purpose of the proposed Special Issue of Future Generation Computer Systems is to publish recent advances in security and privacy for IoT, with emphasis on the following aspects, but certainly not limited to:
Secure Machine-to-Machine communications in IoT
Secure data management in IoT
Access Control and Authentication
Secure network architecture for IoT
Secure integration of IoT and Cloud computing
Secure data storage and segregation
Secure integration of IoT and social networks
Secure cloud storage and computation for mobile device
Encryption, identity management and intrusion detection techniques
Availability, recovery and auditing
Secure and energy efficient management of IoT objects
Paper Solicitation
This issue is an open special issue where everyone is encouraged to submit papers.
Each paper (including the selected papers from the conference) will go through a rigorous peer-review process by at least three international researchers. In total we plan to include 8-12 papers in this special issue. The acceptance rate will be fairly low but we regard quality as our top priority.
Submission Guidelines
Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the Guide for Authors available from the online submission page of the Future Generation Computer Systems at http://ees.elsevier.com/fgcs/ . Authors should select “SI: IoT security and privacy” when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.
