“Globally Interconnected Sensors and Actuators in the Cloud With Engineering Applications and Case Studies”
To be published in “Intelligent Data-Centric Systems” Elsevier book series
Book Description
---
Cloud computing is a fast growing trend towards in all fields of science, engineering and businesses, etc. As a field of research, it relies on the convergence of various technologies such as High Performance Computing, Grid Computing, Virtualization of Resources, Data Centers, etc. and brings in a revolutionary paradigm for computing model in the 21st century. On the other hand, Cloud computing is serving as platform for other computing paradigms and therefore we are seeing multi-disciplinary approaches based on Cloud computing such as Mobile Cloud Computing, Social Networking, Business Intelligence, etc. Among such approaches there is the IoT Cloud, that is, the Internet of Things based on Cloud Platforms. Indeed, nowadays the developments in technologies such as wireless communications and networking, mobile computing and handheld devices, embedded systems, wearable computers, sensors, RFID tags, smart spaces, middleware and software agents, and the like, have led to the IoT Cloud.
The objective of the book is to bring latest research findings and developments trends in the filed of global interconnection of sensors and actuators in the Cloud platforms. The book will feature contributions from the open-call, from a selection of experts and highly reputed international researchers and practitioners in the field. It will comprise fundamental findings, architectures, development models and case studies for real life problems.
Relevant topics and Book structure
---
This Edited Book aims to present aspects of globally interconnected sensors and actuators in the Cloud platform research and applications development, including architectures, support services, algorithms and protocols, control systems, applications, emerging technologies, and business and societal impacts. The main features of the book are:
- Offer a coherent and realistic image of today’s architectures, techniques, protocols, components, orchestration, choreography and development related to globally interconnected sensors and actuators in the Cloud platform.
- Explain state-of-the-art technological solutions for main issues hindering the development of next-generation control systems, supporting components for intelligently controlling parts of a system, gathering data, dealing with resource and data management, including fault tolerance, security, monitoring and controlling, relation with the Internet of Things and Big Data, applications for globally interconnected sensors and actuators in the Cloud platform, etc.
- Present the benefits of Cloud and Pervasive Computing, and the development process of scientific and commercial applications and platforms to support them, in this field.
- Ensure a pleasant reading and an intuitive style to facilitate comprehension of complex issues in fairly easy way and by numerous examples, figures and illustrations.
There are few emerging efforts that are published in conferences and workshops in the computing domains, in which these have started to appear on their topic list. These may include, but are not limited to the following topics:
- Architectures for sensors and actuator networks to be connected in the Cloud (components, orchestration, choreography and development related to globally interconnected sensors and actuators in the Cloud platform.)
- Communication and Network Protocols
- Data gathering, processing, storage and management in Cloud for sensor and actuator networks (including security and privacy)
- Programming models and middleware for sensor and actuator networks in Cloud platforms
- Experimental studies and test beds for sensor and actuator networks in Cloud platforms
- Applications and case studies
- Review of state-of-the-art technological solutions for main issues hindering the development of next-generation control systems, supporting components for intelligently controlling parts of a system
