Computational Health Science (CHS-16): Social Media Mining
In conjunction with IEEE ICHI 2016 (http://www.ieee-ichi.org)
Tuesday, 4 October 2016
Chicago, IL
Call for Papers
===
Computational Health Science (CHS) integrates the analytical strengths and skills of health scientists and computer scientists, supported by complementary expertise from other researchers and practitioners as applicable (e.g., psychologists, sociologists). The goal of this CHS Workshop is to explore the novel opportunities offered by social media to inform future practice directed at changing health behavior through improved surveillance, communication, promotion and targeted intervention.
We welcome submissions and participation from individuals working on the following topics. This list is not exhaustive, and other topics, strongly associated with health-related issues in social media, will be considered.
- Mining social media data for health surveillance and communication
- Using social media for health promotion and awareness
- Using social media for targeted health intervention
- Correlating health-related social media data with traditional data sources (e.g., CDC, national surveys)
- Addressing issues and opportunities associated with large volumes of observational health data (e.g., validation)
- Leveraging the rich structure of social media to understand phenomena such as health information dissemination, disease spread, and health-related norm creation/reinforcement (e.g., using social network analysis, agent-based modeling, etc.)
- Understanding ethical issues associated with mining health-related social media data
Submission and Review Process
===
Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the workshop. We will consider two types of papers:
- Short/position papers of 2 to 4 pages in length presenting novel ideas, work in progress, or late-breaking results
- Long/research papers of 6 to 8 pages in length presenting a case study, results of data analysis, or completed research
Both types of paper should be in the same format as that of regular papers for ICHI 2016, namely IEEE Proceedings Format. Templates for LaTex and Word are available at http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences....
All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two members of the program committee. All accepted research papers of registered authors will appear in the ICHI proceedings published by IEEE and will be made available on IEEE Explore. All papers, including short/position papers will be included in the Workshop Proceedings online.
Papers should be submitted via Easy Chair at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=chs16.
Important Dates
===
Paper submission deadline: 21 June 2016
Notification of acceptance: 8 July 2016
Camera-ready paper: 29 July 2016
Workshop day: 4 October 2016
Workshop Format
===
An important goal of this workshop is to encourage interactions among participants, and to foster novel collaborations. The schedule will reflect our desire to balance research exposition and information exchange. In addition to 3 invited talks and presentations by the authors of accepter papers, there will be plenty of time for informal discussions during breaks throughout the day, as well as in the form of break-out sessions.
