Ontology content creation and use became a topic of utmost relevance in a world increasingly in the need to make sense of floods of data and information. Although the ontology engineering field is well established and produced useful results for practice, the creation and use of ontology content in the real world lacks theoretical and empirical knowledge, needing more research effort. Furthermore, the study of ontology content is a challenging research area because of its inherent multidisciplinarity: the object of study is socio-technical and the contexts of its use are socially determined.
The OnToContent workshop aims to debate the current and future challenges of ontology content creation, use and management in aspects such as methodologies and tools concerned with developing ontology content, ontology content evaluation, ontology content management and ontology governance. The workshop also aims to give special attention to the impact of ontologies and their content in real life domains such as business, employment, healthcare, community development, and participatory government.
We welcome papers that describe and discuss ontology content aspects, particularly:
Research papers presenting theory, methods, models or tools with a clear illustrations on how they can be applied in real world contexts and situations;
Position papers presenting opinions on some aspect of ontology practice, or describing work that is still in progress, but sufficiently mature to warrant attention;
Rich experiences and case studies describing success stories, problem situations, needs and opportunities of developing and using of ontologies in businesses and industry, government and public administration, non-profit and grass-root organizations.
This edition of the workshop is organised as a venue of experts, and is part of the OTM’2014 Federated Conferences. It will be also an opportunity for identifying new directions in applications of ontologies that can be developed in future research projects.
