Scope of Workshop: The debut edition of Workshop on Next Generation Backhaul/Fronthaul Networks BackNets 2015 will be organized in conjunction with the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) in London June 8-12, 2015. Proceedings of BackNets 2015 will be a collection of outstanding technical research/position and industrial papers covering novel backhaul solutions and recent research results with wide range of ingredients within the 5G framework (with specific focus on backhaul solutions). The workshop will provide an opportunity for exchanging ideas and creating new space for innovative game-changing backhaul solutions to the challenging problems of designing smart backhauling for the excessive heterogeneous-types of bursty traffic and preparing the ground for “The Age of the ZetaByte.”
This workshop will examine the technical challenges, review the economic feasibility, and discuss possible paths to regulatory solutions for future generation of backhaul/fronthaul communications and networking. The topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to:
? Backhaul requirements and limitation (ideal and non-ideal backhaul and their capabilities)
? End-to-end backhaul solutions for multiple radio access technologies in 5G
? Wireless, wireline, and hybrid backhaul techniques
? Higher capacity fronthaul topologies and architecture for ultra-dense small-cell networks
? Backhauling/fronthauling options for split control and data planes under Phantom cell concept
? Scalable backhaul solutions, e.g. free space optical (FSO) networks
? Synchronization approaches and latency issues to combat delays introduced in backhaul operations
? Multi-hop backhaul networks
? Migration to IP-based backhaul/fronthaul in 5G networks
? Backhaul relaxation in 5G heterogeneous networks including traffic offloading and data caching
? Backhaul and fronthaul selection for device-centric communications in 5G
? Signaling over IP (SoIP) for device-centric communications
? Usability of higher frequency bands for backhaul (case studies and commercial perspectives)
? Orchestration of in-band and out-of-band frequency usage for backhaul (including hybrid approaches)
? Point-to-point wireless backhaul interfaces for short-range communications
? Backhaul convergence and application driven business models
? Backhaul scheduling techniques
? Cognitive backhaul/opportunistic backhaul/fronthaul solutions
? Green backhaul solutions
? Joint design and optimization of radio access and backhaul
? Massive MIMO-based short-range backhaul for ultra-dense small-cell deployment
? Exploitation of unlicensed spectrum for wireless backhaul
? Comparative and commercial/regulatory case studies with legacy backhaul networks
? Energy consumption models for the backhaul
? Backhaul requirements for C-RAN and CoMP
Highlights:
? Keynotes given by world-leading researchers in the field.
? Industry-sponsored awards for best paper and most innovative game-changing backhaul solution idea.
? Panel discussions, organized by industry with panelists from both industry and academia.
Paper submission:
The workshop accepts only novel, previously unpublished regular research, position and industrial papers. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a standard IEEE conference-style paper to this workshop through the EDAS submission system. https://www.edas.info/newPaper.php?c=18659
All submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length of six (6) printed pages (minimum 10-point font) including figures, without incurring additional page charges. One (1) additional page is allowed with a charge of $100, if accepted. Accepted papers must be presented at the workshop. The presenter must register for the workshop before the deadline for author registration. http://icc2015.ieee-icc.org/registration
Failure to register before the deadline will result in automatic withdrawal of the paper from the workshop proceedings and the program. All papers selected for publication will be included in the IEEE ICC proceedings and IEEE digital library. Refer to authors guidelines for more information before submitting papers. http://icc2015.ieee-icc.org/content/authors-guidel...
