Semantic technologies, like XML and RDF, have transformed the way health information and data can be managed, analysed and represented. Manifestations of health information and data may include: content on various diseases, treatments, drugs or diagnostics tests; patient health records; experimental and clinical data; clinical codes and terminologies; health care processes, models policies and methodologies; epidemiological data and statistical models; as well as research data that link health records to medical research. Modern intelligent health systems make use of metadata, linked data, semantics and ontologies as a means of attaching meaning to this type of clinical data and information, thus improving its management in terms of:
retrieval, storage and information governance;
share-ability among different services;
interoperability between systems; and
representation to clinicians, public health professionals, health commissioners, researchers and patients.
The aim of the special track on Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies for Health Information Systems & Digital Libraries is to bring together researchers and academics in the area of Health informatics, Health Information Science, Bioinformatics and e-Health Research who are interested in communicating and sharing novel research approaches to the implementation of metadata, ontologies and semantics in the context of various types of Bio-Health Information Systems (like Digital Libraries & Big data, Decision-support systems, Health Policy Simulators, Information & Data Management Systems, Electronic Health Records, Epidemiological Surveillance Systems, or Patient Focus Systems).
Topics
Topics include but are not limited to contributions dealing with the following issues:
Ontologies and knowledge representation for clinical information
Big data management systems
Metadata standards, schemas and application profiles
Management of Electronic Patient Health Records
Metadata and semantic interoperability
Clinical terminologies, taxonomies and vocabularies
Metadata and ontologies for eHealth Research
Metadata and ontologies for clinical and disease policy models
Metadata and ontologies for Epidemiological surveillance systems
Metadata, semantics and ontologies for storage and retrieval of health information (e.g. digital libraries, search engines, data-mining and information retrieval systems)
Quality issues for metadata and semantics (methods, measures)
Human Computer Interaction and User research in metadata and ontology design and representation.
Comparative studies (auto generated versus human generated metadata and semantics)
Patient flow metadata and semantics
Patient opinion mining (sentiment analysis, multi-classification methods, data mining)
