ECCE 2012 is the 30th annual conference of the European Association of Cognitive Ergonomics. It brings together researchers and practitioners who are interested in disseminating their knowledge, experience and ideas in the area of cognitive ergonomics, human technology interaction and cognitive engineering. ECCE 2012 will be held at Edinburgh Napier University Edinburgh, Scotland, 28 - 31 August 2012.

Visualization has different purposes: representing complex structures or processes, supporting multiple viewpoints, allowing intuitive interaction with data or models or supporting aesthetics and the user’s experience. Developments often seem to aim at one of these two directions, sometimes clearly at the expense of the other. Our quest is to consider if there is the need for an explicit trade off, the possibility of a balance, or even an opportunity to discover an optimal combination. This workshop will allow exchange of ideas, experiences, viewpoints from different disciplines, and visions on the role of industry and academia in developing a common ground for aware design and teaching.
The workshop is organized by Gerrit van der Veer (Open University, The Netherlands), Achim Ebert, Inga Scheler, and Shah Rukh Humayoun (latter three: University of Kaiserslautern, Germany). The team is comprised of representatives with a wide multi-disciplinary expertise. They all have significant experience in the main disciplines (HCI and cognitive sciences), as well as in related areas and application domains.
