About the theme
The importance of digital learning was made abundantly clear when schools across the world closed their classroom doors and opened digital doors for their students who had to learn from home. The pandemic showed the world that we were not as prepared for digital learning as we thought. Teachers were not familiar with the issues brought on by digital learning and many students did not know how to properly employ available technology. We also learned of the digital divide as some pupils had access to high quality and reliable technology, whereas others did not. Education once again broke down along socioeconomic status.
We need more research and better understanding of best practices relative to technology and how to maximize children’s learning in a digital world. We also need solid research on the effects of prolonged time away from the classroom.
ICEDU 2021 can help us understand some of these issues so that we can “Empower Learners in a Digital World.”
