GENSIPS is a workshop established in 2002 and sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society. It provides a forum for researchers in the signal processing community, other related computational experts, and biomedical scientists to exchange ideas and discuss signal processing challenges due to the high modality of disparate high-throughput data, high variability of the data acquisition, high dimensionality of data, and high complexity of genomics and proteomics systems. Our goals for GENSIPS’11 are to address the computational issues in the emerging field of computational genomics and proteomics, and to improve participation from not only within the SP society but computer science, statistics, and biomedical communities.

San Antonio is well positioned to provide a unique workshop experience for all participants: leading research universities(the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)), CTRC (a NCI designated Cancer Center at UTHSCSA), Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR, one of the nation’s leading independent biomedical research institutions), the largest military healthcare and biomedical research operation in the US, more than 9 hospitals around UTHSCSA and downtown San Antonio, and proximity to nation's leading cancer centers/medical schools (MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Southwestern, and Baylor College of Medicine) and comprehensive universities (Rice University, UT Austin and other UT campuses,
Texas A&M, Texas Tech, etc).
