Introduction
Providing real-time guarantees in embedded systems and engineering controls raises a number of challenging scientific and engineering problems that span across a variety of research areas in the last two decades. Such complex embedded systems have different parts with different levels of real-time requirements and specifically the level of temporal guarantees like temporal predictability, safety control, low power and QoS guarantees. Indeed, embedded and ubiquitous computing is an exciting paradigm that promises to provide computing and communication services to the end users all the time and everywhere. Its systems are now invading in every aspect of our daily life and promise to revolutionize our life much more profoundly than elevators, electric motors or even personal computer evolution ever did. The emergence of this technology is a natural outcome of research and technological advances in a variety of areas including embedded systems, pervasive computing and communications, wireless networks, mobile computing, distributed computing and agent technologies.
This book seeks to provide a discussion forum for scientists, engineers, educators and students about the latest ideas and realizations in the foundations, theory, models and applications of real time systems, embedded systems, hybrid systems inspired on nature (fuzzy logic and evolutionary systems) as well as in emerging areas related to the above items.
Handbook of Research on Real-Time Embedded Systems is a truly interdisciplinary field, intermixing theories and methodologies from mathematic, computer science, operations management, engineering, decision support, Artificial Intelligence, fuzzy logic, soft computing and many more, even reaching into Ontology, education quality, evolutionary systems and biology. Rather than disseminating the different scholarly papers among a large number of journals or focusing on specialized topics in niche publications, Handbook of Research on Real-Time Embedded Systems aims to bring together high-quality papers and original contributions with a potentially far-reaching impact in the field, inside the same encyclopedia. As a result, the interfaces between the different disciplines and the richness of the field are bolstered, facilitating new and interesting approaches. Similarly, all kinds of submissions, from short notes and technical letters to full papers, case studies and applications are welcomed. The editor will seek chapters that address different aspects of real-time systems, ranging from e-embedded systems, schedulable control systems, reconfigurable embedded systems, and related topics. Additionally, the book will explore the impact of such technologies on our daily life.
Objective
This comprehensive and timely publication aims to be an essential reference source, building on the available literature in the field of real-time embedded systems in developing theories and methodologies while providing for further research opportunities in this dynamic field. It is hoped that this text will provide the resources necessary for technology developers and managers to adopt and implement new technologies, theories and methodologies.
Target Audience
Academicians, researchers, advanced-level students, technology developers, and government officials will find this text useful in furthering their research exposure to pertinent topics in real-time embedded systems and assisting in furthering their own research efforts in this field.
