Special Session on
"Grid, Parallel and Distributed Bioinformatics Applications"
http://saturno.ge.imati.cnr.it/ima/personal/dagost...
Paper submission deadline: July 30th, 2012
Bioinformatics is a discipline that aims to perform analysis of complex biological systems using a computer science approach, with the result of producing huge amounts of data. The major issue is represented by the need to turn this information into real knowledge, therefore the potential of exploiting parallel computing and distributed solutions in this field is clear. Porting applications and developing new systems on computer clusters improves performance when addressing genome wide analysis. Moreover, distributed technology such as Grid computing represents an emerging solution for establishing platforms to deal with data produced using new high throughput technology and gives researchers scalable solutions.
The aim of this special session is to present the latest efforts in parallel and distributed bioinformatics applications in grid computing. We are especially interested in parallel algorithms and libraries for biological analysis and tools to perform large scale computation on distributed platforms like the Grid.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Biological databases for high throughput analysis
Parallel Algorithms for genomics and proteomics
DNA assembly, clustering, and mapping
Bio-Molecular sequence based analysis
Gene identification and annotation
SNP analysis and classification
Gene expression Microarray analysis
Tissue Microarray pattern recognition
Systems biology and pathway analysis
Phylogeny reconstruction algorithms
Molecular dynamics simulation
Structural analysis for prediction and modelling
Parallel architectures for biological applications
System infrastructure for high-performance bio-computing
Supporting projects: CNR-Bioinformatics and Interomics
The aim of the Bioinformatics project is to establish a network of specific skills within CNR departments able to adequately respond to bioinformatics needs generated by CNR's projects.
This project will support the development of new approaches to analysis and management of genomic and proteomic data in biomedical, biotechnological, agro-industrial molecular design fields. This project aims to conduct coordinated research activities, aid technological transfer and to run training programmes, all of which will contribute to the development of new and advanced bioinformatics tools that will be made available to the entire national and international scientific community.
